The Warped Woodturner (TWW) is a local artist traveling his artist's journey in a suburb of Springbrook, WI (pop. 536). TWW's creative calling is to use a wood lathe to make useless objects from locally-sequestered organic carbon for tourists to bring back to the city to give to people they had to buy something for but do not like that much. His target market is the senior citizens since their vision is not as good as it used to be so cannot see the defects as well. His marketing jingle is: “Bowls as simple as their creator”.

Global warming causes ice in June

We thought the neighbors were practicing golf again before realizing we were having an ice storm. The 1st picture below shows a 6" sidewalk timber compared to an ice ball. We have never seen hail in the four years we have lived here until this year. We can only conclude BIG OIL and their shingle companies must have caused this to increase their obscene profits by selling more shingles.

Propet Algore will be happy

This should earn us some points for going to Global Warmist Heaven. The green thing is the top of the tube we will use to hold a solar clothes drier.
We can't watch the cement dry since we covered it up so had to find other ways to entertain ourselves. We shot in the air a few times to scare off a bear this morning. This time the bear ran away. The last time we tried to make noise with a gun the bear turned and gave me us the paw.

Serving bowl/tray

Serving bowl/tray of some sort made from an old tree that blew down in the August 2005 storm. It was colored using vinegar with rusty nails in it and then the bowl was coated with mineral oil. The coloring and coating add flavor to what you serve in the tray/bowl and aid in digestion. The bowl/tray measures 12" by 1 1/2". The spot in the center of the bowl is one of TWW's signature defects used to insure an imperfect product.

Moving Dirt

The man with the skid steer machine was back and completed his part of the transformation of the 30 acres into the Garbin Moraine B & B complete with ski and snowshoe trails and walking paths. Below is a look at the beta release of Shirley's Way.

The dirt closest to the Bluebird B & B house below is the final resting point for the legendary BIG ROCK. While digging many holes TWW has been concerned he would run into the BIG ROCK. Now that the BIG ROCK has finally been found and given a decent burial we can all rest in peace knowing we will eventually succeed in getting our own holes dug. The rock was about the same size as the skid steer machine according to the machine operator. It was sticking out of the ground masquerading as a big rock to fool us.

Bowl

Since this is a blog about bowls we'd better start putting more of them here. This one is about 8" x 3" made from some tree the wind blew down in 2005.

Lovefrogs

The lovefrogs in their new location.

Justice

Mrs. TWW put two white rugs out on the deck atop the back of a lawn chair. A juvenile delinquent climbed up on the rugs and chewed along the top of both rugs making them useless. The perpetrator has been apprehended and is now is behind bars but as defiant as ever.

Benches

Benches built with lumber from a timberframe outdoor shower from a past life. Reuse, recycle not refuse. Stay tuned for recycled posts on this blog. There is only so much of interest in the country to share with people who never read this blog.

Life and death in the country

The garden is now almost completely in. In the north country you have to plant later. Now Mrs. TWW has about 70 days of anticipation before the tomatoes are ready. (TWW is hoping for crop failure).

We have a hill where nothing will grow so we planted crown vetch. Now that it is finally growing we learned the DNR does not want us to have it since it is invasive. As good lake lovers we sprayed the vetch with Roundup (a long ways from any lakes). TWW is also hoping for crop failure here.

Wheelbarrow garage now painted

It was windy yesterday. The paint dried fast so we had to find something else to do for the rest of the day.

Warning about global warming propaganda

NOTE: TWW says the next time you hear a news story about warm weather or hurricanes remember this term. This term may also apply to Bush and Company when they were deciding to invade Iraq.

Confirmation bias
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
(note: this was taken from Wikipedia)
In psychology and cognitive science, confirmation bias is a tendency to search for or interpret new information in a way that confirms one's preconceptions and avoid information and interpretations which contradict prior beliefs. It is a type of cognitive bias and represents an error of inductive inference, or as a form of selection bias toward confirmation of the hypothesis under study or disconfirmation of an alternative hypothesis.

Confirmation bias is an area of interest in the teaching of critical thinking as the skill is misused when rigorous critical scrutiny is applied to evidence supporting a preconceived idea but not to evidence challenging the same preconception.[1]

Mrs. TWW's Way (as in path)

We got a guy over with a skid steer machine to rip a path through the woods. It should turn out nice.
There was a slight problem as a tree damaged a tire so the contractor had to go to town and could not finish in the same day.

The TWW's marriage turns 25

It was a 9 cork night.

The usual cooking coup occurred as the brothers and son told TWW to go sit in the truck so they could grill the goodies.

Anniversary party - continued

Even after 25 years Mrs. TWW still knows how to laugh at TWW's jokes.

A wise aker taking pictures of the event for her blog.

Anniversary presents out of the ordinary

This rare collector's item is an electric butterfly wine bottle.

Here TWW and Mrs TWW discuss where to put this pair of love frogs outside.

More work than expected

The DR Powerwagon garage is on hold until after the 25th anniversary family gathering. Life fulfillment comes from building a BIG country garage to begin with rather than a series of small sheds.

Illegal immigration

This is what you get if you don't keep control of who moves in. The house on the left is normal. The one on the right was trashed by a bear from Chicago. The roof was ripped off and the door smashed in.

Life enhancement supported by high technology

People with a scanner and the Internet can listen to the aircraft flying by where they live and also watch a screen showing where the aircraft are. Who could be bored with such marvels of technology? For a greater thrill they can look out the window and see the actual aircraft. Sometimes they even can know who the pilot is.

Pigeon Found

The band reads "AU 2006 xxx 999". The dead bird was found on 05/21/2007 on Garbin Moraine.
The xxx and 999 are bogus. The real letters and numbers led TWW to the owner of the pigeon who came and retrieved his deceased bird. The poor bird got off course from a 300 mile trip home and succumbed to dehydration. It was 20 miles from home when it expired.

The soul of a flawed bowl

Prometheus (an ID for a person who posts on a wood turner’s group in Google) said recently "A flawed work has a soul, and contains in every curve and plane a reflection of the dedication and work of the person who created it. It is the union of all those things which make us human crystallized, and reconnects us to the hundreds of thousands of years in which our species has struggled with mind, heart, and hands to bring us to our present level of wealth and leisure. The flaw is history set in material form - displaying a snapshot of the temporary limitations of,
and even more importantly, the promise of an ever-changing evolving mind. "

TWW used to say if you find a design error make it a product feature. Prometheus is much wiser. TWW gave a city friend an oak bowl this weekend with a hole in the bottom. Was it a design or production error or a reflection of the dedication and work of the person who created the holey bowl? As long as she does not put soup in the bowl she can wonder about the soul of a flawed work.

Missing body

Please help us find a missing body. Since no body in the family will lay claim to this shirt, it must have come from someone who was able to subvert the security system and enter the house and remove their shirt (perhaps while using the hot tub). If you have any information on the owner of this shirt please contact Mrs. TWW.

The shirt has a symbol on it. The picture below makes the symbol look reddish but it is really white.

Life enrichment or existential crisis?

This last ceiling light in the basement may appear nondescript to an outsider but to the residents of Garbin Moraine it is a watershed. It was the last task on the three year nine month project to build the house in the sticks. Like any project we are declaring success and moving on. The next question is how TWW will occupy his time and find a meaningful existence.

Life enrichment is all relatives

It was buck hamburger night, so Jr tried to get a buck to grill with his BB gun.

Here TA demonstrates life enrichment by putting on a light show using the dimmer in the kitchen while ignoring all of the calls from women on his cell phone to show he has his priorities straight.

The family torch singer gave us a sensual rendition of 'Smoke Gets in Your Eyes' . Someone noted she did not inherit her father's voice and everyone was grateful.

Here the executive director of the cabin trust enlightened people with a demonstration of a new intestinal gas extraction (IGE) technique.

Finally, MA Jr. brought her new boyfriend. She must have kissed him before posting other pics on her blog: http://mallorcamegane.blogspot.com/

No longer a barn

This past week JTRWG Construction Company has been at work on the family cabin changing it from its former barn personality into a lake gambrel chalet. This week the crew got the old barn siding exterior off and covered the building with white moisture breathing material.

Next comes the stone wall around the lower part of the building and log siding over the rest. Here the executive committee of the trust mulls how high the stone wall should be.
