The Warped Woodturner (TWW) is a local artist traveling his artist's journey in a suburb of Springbrook, WI (pop. 536). TWW's creative calling is to use a wood lathe to make useless objects from locally-sequestered organic carbon for tourists to bring back to the city to give to people they had to buy something for but do not like that much. His target market is the senior citizens since their vision is not as good as it used to be so cannot see the defects as well. His marketing jingle is: “Bowls as simple as their creator”.

Another crackpot letter to the editor in the works

Editor:

Climate scientists talk about albedo as the ratio of reflected radiation from a surface compared to radiation hitting it. It is measured on a scale from zero for no reflection of a perfectly black surface to 1 for perfect reflection of a white surface. This means white snow sends most light back towards space and dark snow absorbs light and heats up so it melts quicker. Yellow snow is somewhere in between. Last year during the Birkie the climate change people were fretting about the end of winter. This year we all are fretting. So how can we help end winter? We need to learn from the celebrities and their ideas about saving the planet. First, temporarily stop recycling dark objects. Put them in your yard on the snow to turn sunlight into heat. Next, take snow off your roof so bare shingles absorb the light and generate heat to melt the other snow on the roof. Also, spread the ashes from your wood stove on the snow to make black snow. Finally, collect dog, deer and rabbit waste (use caution here) and put it on the snow in your yard. Space prevents listing more ideas here. Think like a celebrity and use your your creativity to collect heat and melt the snow. The longer you have white snow the longer it will stay cold. We can end winter if we work together.

Does Amazon control the weather??

The pictures above show what happened when TWW ordered some cranberry juice from Amazon for Mrs. TWW.  The bottles either had been tampered with or the factory had problems.  He took the pictures and tried to put a nasty product review on Amazon.com but could not get these pictures to upload.  He then called a Amazon customer service person who asked him what the problem was and gave the usual scripted "we are sorry" spiel. Then she asked how everything else was going and TWW said it was snowing again.  The woman said she was in Jamaca and it was nice and warm down there and she would send up some sunshine.  She also put in a replacement order (for free) and the new juice is on the way. TWW is still waiting for the juice and the sunshine (he is sure the juice will come but not so sure about the sunshine).

That was written on Tuesday.   On Thursday it was 50 degrees F on the official Garbin Moraine porch thermometer and sunny.

Global warming walk in the woods

Another example of  albedo (see below)

You make up your own caption

Dumping ashes makes snow melt faster.

Now if you have wasted your time reading this far:

"Albedo (/ælˈbd/), or reflection coefficient, derived from Latin albedo "whiteness" (or reflected sunlight) in turn from albus "white," is the diffuse reflectivity or reflecting power of a surface. It is the ratio of reflected radiation from the surface to incident radiation upon it. Its dimensionless nature lets it be expressed as a percentage and is measured on a scale from zero for no reflection of a perfectly black surface to 1 for perfect reflection of a white surface." source: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Albedo

What this means is all the coniferous trees TWW and friends planted are warming the planet so never trust a tree hugger.

Quote of the day and pic of the day

"The larger point is that there have been so many unilateral executive waivers and delays that ObamaCare must be unrecognizable to its drafters, to the extent they ever knew what the law contained."

So why did they leave the lights on?

If they were serious about climate change caused by fossil fuels why didn't they have their party in a place where the lights were powered by the sun?

Senate holds global warming all-nighter: Why 4 Dems will be no-shows

Senate Democrats will talk about the importance of addressing global warming until 9 a.m. Tuesday. But the issue is fraught with difficulties for four Democrats who won't appear."

A gullibility test for you

If you would vote against someone who voted for Obamacare would you vote for them if they postponed the parts of Obamacare you do not like until after the election?.  You may get your chance to find out:

Global warming and the Nazis

One global warming 'denier' got tired of being called a denier so decided to fight back.  He said he would start calling  global warming people 'global warming Nazis' since they call him a 'denier' implying he is like a holocaust denier.

Here is what the ADL said about him: "University of Alabama-Huntsville Professor Roy Spencer’s analogy of proponents of global warming to Nazis is outrageous and deeply offensive.  This analogy is just the latest example of a troubling epidemic of comparisons to Hitler and the Holocaust. It has become too common to use comparisons to the Holocaust and Nazi imagery to attack people with opposing views, whether the issue is global warming, immigration or stem-cell research."

Here is a quote from columnist Ellen Goodman:

Here is what the ADL said about Goodman: ......zzzzzzzzzzzzz

And it gets even more interesting. Here is part of a review by Thomas Sowell of the book Who Really Cares by Arthur C. Brookes:

"What is the reason why some people are liberals and others are conservatives, if it is not that liberals are more compassionate?
Fundamental differences in ideology go back to fundamental assumptions about human nature. Based on one set of assumptions, it makes perfect sense to be a liberal. Based on a different set of assumptions, it makes perfect sense to be a conservative.
The two visions are not completely symmetrical, however. For at least two centuries, the vision of the left has included a belief that those with that vision are morally superior, more caring and more compassionate.
While both sides argue that their opponents are mistaken, those on the left have declared their opponents to be not merely in error but morally flawed as well. So the idea that liberals are more caring and compassionate goes with the territory, whether or not it fits the facts.
Those on the left proclaimed their moral superiority in the 18th century and they continue to proclaim it in the 21st century. What is remarkable is how long it took for anyone to put that belief to the test -- and how completely it failed that test."
source: http://www.realclearpolitics.com/articles/2006/11/who_really_cares.html
The book above studied how much of their money and/or time people gave to charity and conservatives gave more than liberals.
So calling people who disagree with your beliefs about climate science 'deniers' as if they were denying the holocaust makes sense to people on the left but if someone on the 'right' does it they are offensive? and the ADL seems to agree.
