"Woodward — first in “The Price of Politics,” his best-seller on the failed quest for a grand budget bargain, and later with his opinion piece in the Post — makes plain that sequestration was an idea crafted by the White House. Obama personally approved the plan and later signed it into law. Woodward was right, several congressional officials involved in the talks told us."

Now when our Fearless Leader talks about saving us from sequestration you know who was part of creating the situation in the first place.

HOW TO ORDER A BOWL
The Warped Woodturner (TWW) is a local artist traveling his artist's journey in a suburb of Springbrook, WI (pop. 536). TWW's creative calling is to use a wood lathe to make useless objects from locally-sequestered organic carbon for tourists to bring back to the city to give to people they had to buy something for but do not like that much. His target market is the senior citizens since their vision is not as good as it used to be so cannot see the defects as well. His marketing jingle is: “Bowls as simple as their creator”.

Birkie results
The first six finishers in the big cross country ski race yesterday were women. The men were about 5 blocks behind. The announcers on the local community/communist radio station were in awe at the thought of seeing so many women be the first to finish. But then one of the announcers said these women got about an 8-0 minute head start since the Birkie starts with waves (groups) every ten minutes so the overall winner might be a man. So even though the men had lower times to the finish line the women still won. Affirmative action at its finest:)
Crackpot letter to the editor time again
Editor:
It's time to apply science to the shortage of snow some years for the Birkie. At least 90% of the experts in the field think Coincidental Counter-Examples (CCEs) are worth further study. Also, called the Al Gore Effect, a CCE is the apparent causal relationship between unseasonable cold weather phenomena and people holding events about climate change. The most recent example is the appearance of Bill McKibben, a leader in climate change movement, giving a talk at the Park Theater right before the Birkie followed by six inches of snow. The moral here is we need to invite more climate change media stars to visit the area to ensure enough snow. As a last resort we can organize climate change protests at highways 63 and 27 to protest all the unnecessary fossil fuels burned getting all the skiers to the Birkie. Snow would almost surely follow.

Public service announcement
Continuing with its tradition of public service the Garbin Morain Foundation has donated a second growler to King Tut's Bar. This way when guests want to bring the best of the local brews to share at King Tut's Bar there are now two growlers to borrow and get filled at the Angry Minnow (see link here) only a short 15 mile drive away in Hayward.

Multiculturalism at its finest
" [One student] said the fights were over pride. ‘I know it’s a pride thing between Muslims and black people,’ she said. ‘They want their pride back for something. I don’t know.’ "

Saturday Soup Kitchen Pics
Saturday, February 09, 2013
Soup kitchen opens at 12:30 today
In the meantime here is the quote of the day:
From Christopher Dorner’s manifesto:
This may say something about the minds of the people who project all their inner stuff unto firearms (either pro or con).Anti-NRA:Wayne LaPierre, President of the NRA, you’re a vile and inhumane piece of shit. You never even showed 30 seconds of empathy for the children, teachers, and families of Sandy Hook.

Extreme right-wingers are right: sometimes paranoia is just good thinikng
“The condition that an operational leader present an ‘imminent’ threat of violent attack against the United States does not require the United States to have clear evidence that a specific attack on U.S. persons and interests will take place in the immediate future,” the memo states.
Instead, it says, an “informed, high-level” official of the U.S. government may determine that the targeted American has been “recently” involved in “activities” posing a threat of a violent attack and “there is no evidence suggesting that he has renounced or abandoned such activities.” The memo does not define “recently” or “activities.”

More media MBS (mostly BS) vs. the people of Newtown
The major media says:
"The NRA's proposal was tone-deaf to the scale of the tragedy and the psychic wreckage it left behind, in addition to being flat-out policy absurdity. The factual errors and logical twists that bedevil the group's concrete suggestion – arm the schools! – are so easily sussed out that they were expressed, repeatedly, in the 140 characters available on Twitter."

The Board of Education in Newtown:
"Newtown Education Board Wants Police Officers in All Elementary Schools
NEWTOWN — The Board of Education, with several parents who have called for additional security looking on, voted unanimously Thursday night to request police school resource officers for all four elementary schools for next year, in addition to security officers in the budget"
