Another crackpot letter to the editor

You don't hear too much about it in the news but George Bush and the Republicans will raise taxes on the people who can least afford it next year.  When they were in power they passed a law to raise income taxes next year so it would happen regardless of whether they were in power.  And in typical Republican fashion the people at the bottom get hurt more than the people at the top.  Currently,  people at the bottom of the income tax rates pay a 10% tax rate but next year it goes to 15% or a whopping 50% increase. When people are barely getting by in the first place a 50% increase in taxes hurts.  Contrast this with the rich people who always get the best treatment from Bush and Company having their tax rate next year go from 35% to 39.6% or only up about 13%. Though the rich may whine about their tax increases they can afford them much easier than the people on the bottom end of the income scale.

"Personal income tax rates will rise.  The top income tax rate will rise from 35 to 39.6 percent (this is also the rate at which two-thirds of small business profits are taxed).  The lowest rate will rise from 10 to 15 percent.  All the rates in between will also rise.  Itemized deductions and personal exemptions will again phase out, which has the same mathematical effect as higher marginal tax rates.  The full list of marginal rate hikes is below:

- The 10% bracket rises to an expanded 15%
- The 25% bracket rises to 28%
- The 28% bracket rises to 31%
- The 33% bracket rises to 36%
- The 35% bracket rises to 39.6%

Note: While you never or at least seldom hear it in the news the Bush tax cuts for the rich helped the little people who pay taxes too. (TWW thinks only about half of the people have to pay income tax anyway).

No Name Plate (until further notice)

TWW needs name of a new profession

TWW just put a shellaced pine plate out to dry. This plate bowl at least for now does not have a crack showing so cannot be a plumber's plate.  It also does not have any real defects so could not be a 'MA-------->'  plate. The question is what to call it. Any advice would be appreciated.

Something to keep in mind as they reform immigration laws again.  Just think of what happened to the Native Americans when they did not control who moved into their lands. 

Pine Plumber's Plate Project

To find something to use in keeping this blog going TWW decided to mount a Menard's 1" x 12" board back on the lathe.  This was the same board with a second board glued to the back to mount it to the lathe without having screw holes in the finished product TWW first mounted  in March when the board caught the chisel and overstressed the lathe and the lathe was out of commission for 6 weeks.  And outside expert warned TWW that the glue block did not need to be so big but as TWW Sr. told TWW (yes he is a junior) when he was little  "you always have to learn things the hard way".   

TWW got this first beautiful pine plate almost done but when he was trying to pry the glue block off of the plate the plate transformed into a plumber's plate.  Hopefully, a little glue will hide the mistake.   And once again TWW cautions people to never buy something they see on the Internet. 

Storms to the south and nothing to the north

For life enrichment sit on the porch and watch the cloud go by. It helps to have a camera that gets an exact representation of what they look like but such is life.

Early morning walkabout

Fog in the valley. Must be caused by the coming cooler temperatures from La Nina.

The rain lately caused by the drought caused by global warming means more work since TWW needs to empty the rain gauge more often.  

The trash container escaped being molested by bears last night.

A rare sighting lately as the sun rises with no cloud cover. 

New desktop computer leads to messy desktop

As one of his recovery steps TWW bought a new PC with a bigger screen that was supposed to have bigger print so using it when he got older would be easier.  The PC would not work under the desk so the result is a messier desktop than before it that were possible. Stacking wood is much more life enriching than this high tech stuff.

More problems caused by the drought

It turns out the drought is causing the firewood cut for the 2011-2012 burning season to begin rotting. Therefore TWW has to move and restack the wood to allow more air around the wood to dry the wood out.
