The Warped Woodturner (TWW) is a local artist traveling his artist's journey in a suburb of Springbrook, WI (pop. 536). TWW's creative calling is to use a wood lathe to make useless objects from locally-sequestered organic carbon for tourists to bring back to the city to give to people they had to buy something for but do not like that much. His target market is the senior citizens since their vision is not as good as it used to be so cannot see the defects as well. His marketing jingle is: “Bowls as simple as their creator”.

Mark is out Conway is in

Loyal readers of this blog may remember the earlier entry on financial statements saying we should sing along with Conway while reading them. NPR this morning had a story saying something similar if you could listen between the lines. It talked about Mark but unfortunately since it is liberal radio it did not talk about Conway (since he was a country hick lilke TWW). So open another window in your browser and go to http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IsZL10oxPwY and sing along as you read the following from Wikipedia:

"Mark-to-market is an accounting methodology of assigning a value to a position held in a financial instrument based on the current market price for the instrument or similar instruments. For example, the final value of a futures contract that expires in 9 months will not be known until it expires. If it is marked to market, for accounting purposes it is assigned the value that it would currently fetch in the open market."

Some people claim this accounting method helped cause the current financial mess but we all know it was caused by greedy people who believed in Mark rather than Conway because they lived in big cities.

Halloween Costumes

In the past TWW has wanted to dress up as a black person and go out trick or treating but could not because it would be considered in bad taste or downright racist. (the part about TWW wanting to do so is not true but is used to illustrate the point).

But in recent years we've heard about how George Bush costumes are popular for Halloween parties. So next year when Obama is the president will people dress up as Obama for Halloween or will that be considered racist?
