The Warped Woodturner (TWW) is a local artist traveling his artist's journey in a suburb of Springbrook, WI (pop. 536). TWW's creative calling is to use a wood lathe to make useless objects from locally-sequestered organic carbon for tourists to bring back to the city to give to people they had to buy something for but do not like that much. His target market is the senior citizens since their vision is not as good as it used to be so cannot see the defects as well. His marketing jingle is: “Bowls as simple as their creator”.

TWW thought Hillary was inevitable; proves he is sexist

"Sexist words, they say, include 'polarizing, calculating, disingenuous, insincere, ambitious, inevitable, entitled, over confident'...Also sexist, according to HRC Super Volunteers: 'Secretive' and 'will do anything to win, represents the past, out of touch...'"
The email, according to Chozick, warned, "You are on notice that we will be watching, reading, listening and protesting coded sexism."

Who wins and who loses in this latest battle in the culture wars?

"Woman Suspected Of Cutting Unborn Baby From Woman’s Belly Won’t Face Murder Charges"

So did the pro-abortion people win this round? Or did the anti-abortion side win?   And how does the Obama administration handle it since fetuses are really "Americans in waiting" ?

TWW Factcheck Service Rates This Mostly True

"I find nothing at all wrong with Ted Cruz’s statements about climate change that I have cited above.  In fact, I think they reflect some actual nuance of understanding of the climate change issue.

I REALLY object to President Obama’s ‘denier’ hunt, and insistence on the 97% scientific consensus in support of his policies.  The extreme scientization of the political debate by President Obama is absolutely pernicious to academic freedom and and is hampering scientific progress in understanding this complex problem."

And of course TWW has to remind people: If the science is all settled why do we need to keep wasting more taxpayer money studying it instead of building dikes in poor countries and shipping ice up to the polar bears?

when Greenpeace talks is it beleivable

http://news.heartland.org/newspaper-article/2015/03/20/why-i-am-climate-change-skeptic

"I am skeptical humans are the main cause of climate change and that it will be catastrophic in the near future. There is no scientific proof of this hypothesis, yet we are told “the debate is over” and “the science is settled.”
My skepticism begins with the believers’ certainty they can predict the global climate with a computer model. The entire basis for the doomsday climate change scenario is the hypothesis increased atmospheric carbon dioxide due to fossil fuel emissions will heat the Earth to unlivable temperatures.
In fact, the Earth has been warming very gradually for 300 years, since the Little Ice Age ended, long before heavy use of fossil fuels. Prior to the Little Ice Age, during the Medieval Warm Period, Vikings colonized Greenland and Newfoundland, when it was warmer there than today. And during Roman times, it was warmer, long before fossil fuels revolutionized civilization.
The idea it would be catastrophic if carbon dioxide were to increase and average global temperature were to rise a few degrees is preposterous."

Once a myth is started and people want to believe it it goes on and on like a religious beliefn

"This afternoon the prosecution in George Zimmerman's trial presented testimony from Sean Noffke, the police dispatcher who handledZimmerman's call the night he shot Trayvon Martin. Both the prosecution and the defense (during cross-examination) repeatedly played parts of the call. ...The prosecution also portrayed Zimmerman as eager to pursue Martin, although it is unclear from the recording of the call whether he got out of his car at his own initiative or because Noffke asked him in which direction Martin was running. After we hear the sound of door chimes and wind, we hear Noffke say, "Are you following him?" Zimmerman says yes, and Noffke replies, "OK, we don't need you to do that." Noffke testified that, because of liability concerns, police dispatchers are trained to make suggestions to callers rather than issue commands. In any event, Zimmerman says "OK" in response to Noffke's suggestion."
And now this from the Gospel of Huffington: "On the evening of February 26, 2012, a 28-year-old man with a permit to carry a concealed handgun in Florida, reported a suspicious person in his neighborhood to the local police. Despite being told by the 911 dispatchers to stay in his car and not engage the person..."
So, once again the only truth is with Paul Simon who wrote" All lies and jest,  Still, a man hears what he wants to hear,  And disregards the rest."

St Patrick's Day Feast on a budget

Mrs. TWW fails to see the humor in this for some reason. (just kidding)

Updated March 18, 2015: Yesterday Mrs. TWW demanded she go to the Prime to have real corned beef and cabbage and drink green beer so TWW acquiesced.  Now it is left over and the stuff in the picture tonight.

Bowl given up for adoption

Mrs. TWW's favorite bowl got a little sister this week but to prevent any sibling rivalry TWW put the bowl up for adoption and a loving couple in the next county agreed to adopt it. The bowl comes complete with some defects they will not be able to see when they become senior citizens.

The little sister is on the left and Mrs. TWW's bowl is on the right.  The bowls came from the same tree but the darker one was perhaps finished four years ago and the unfinished one on the left was aging to perfection in the garage and just finished today. It will darken over time.

Does this mean something about her as a candidate or president?

"Hillary Clinton is closing in on April 1 as the operational start date of her long-awaited presidential campaign, multiple sources with knowledge of Clinton’s growing operation in Iowa have told the Guardian."

Gullibility test of the week - Tony Robinson latest unarmed victim

"My son has never been a violent person. And to die in such a violent, violent way, it baffles me," said Andrea Irwin, who told WKOW-TV on Friday night she is Robinson's mother."

On the other hand last year:

"MADISON (WKOW) -- Madison Police Department have arrested three men following a armed home invasion Friday morning.

Madison Police say they responded to the incident on the 1700 block of Onsgard Rd. around 6:00 a.m. A citizen spotted several men saying one of them was armed with a long gun. Suspects fled from officers with electronics and other property. Three of the four suspects were captured.

18-year-old Clifvon West of Milwaukee, 18-year-old DaKwaun Montgomery of Sun Prairie, and 18-year-old Tony Robinson of Madison were all arrested for armed robbery. "

First and hopefully last walk in the winter woods

More clear thinking in the gun battle of the culture wars

"On Wednesday, gun control advocate Gabby Giffords stood with Democratic lawmakers on Capitol Hill to demand that everyone buying a gun be required to undergo the same background check Jared Loughner underwent to acquire the Glock he used to shoot her in 2011.

Yes, Loughner acquired his firearm via a background check, as did Jerad and Amanda Miller (Las Vegas), Elliot Rodger (Santa Barbara), Ivan Lopez (Fort Hood 2014), Darion Marcus Aguilar (Maryland mall), Karl Halverson Pierson (Arapahoe High School), Paul Ciancia (LAX), Aaron Alexis (DC Navy Yard), James Holmes (Aurora theater), Nidal Hasan (Fort Hood 2009), among others.

But Giffords and her husband, Mark Kelly, stood with Democrat lawmakers to argue that expanding background checks to include gun show sales is a way of “stopping violence.” "
